Detailed Description
The descent of Arachthos (Trail 2) is a journey of incomparable beauty, starting from the historic Plaka Bridge—the largest single-arch stone bridge in the Balkans. This 9-kilometer route is the ideal choice for families and beginners, offering a perfect balance of excitement and safety.
The experience begins at our base in Frasta, where you will be fully equipped with specialized rafting gear. After a comprehensive safety briefing from the Alpine Zone experts, we set off downstream through waters rated at a Class III WW difficulty level. As we paddle, you will be immersed in the awe-inspiring Arachthos Gorge, with canyon walls rising up to 700 meters.
Throughout the journey, you will marvel at the vibrant reflections of the crystal-clear waters and the dramatic landscape of Tzoumerka. While the river is roaring in winter, the summer season offers a different, serene perspective, showcasing the raw beauty of the riverbed.
The rafting journey concludes at the Tzari area. From there, we return to the Alpine Zone base, located just a few meters from the Plaka Bridge. Our facilities, including changing rooms and washing facilities, are at your disposal, followed by our traditional treat of Epirote baklava and refreshing water.
*Note for the 2026 Season: Due to unforeseen circumstances and ongoing road construction in the Tzoumerka area, the local authorities and the Municipality of Tzoumerka have directed us to modify our usual trail – which we have been using for many years – for safety reasons. Alpine Zone is committed to ensuring the highest quality experience for all our guests, plus safety, pleasant time and great experiences in Greece’s best River despite these specific circumstances. While this is a temporary change, we are confident that the situation will be resolved soon, and we look forward to returning to our standard route. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
*Note: No previous experience is required. Our WRF-certified guides ensure an absolutely safe and fun experience for all ages.
